Green Building Now: Tools for Sustainable Design and Construction – June 7-8, 1996
The Green Building Now conference assisted the community in its efforts to create a more sustainable built environment. The event encouraged the purchase and use of environmentally sound materials, products, and systems. The conference included plenary sessions, hosted by John Picard of E2 Environmental Enterprises and William Browning of the Rocky Mountain Institute, numerous green building workshops, and a product expo that featured local suppliers of green materials.
Goleta Old Town Community Design Workshop: Proceedings – March 1996
The Goleta Old Town Community Design Workshop Proceedings present and evaluate 20 recommendations for a sustainable economic, social, and envrionmental renewal of Goleta Old Town. The recommendations are a product of the Goleta Old Town Community Design Workshop, held in October 1995. The Workshop’s Architecture and Design Focus Group addressed Green Building in its recommendation to the city regarding the development of quality design guidelines. The Focus Group discussed the development of architectural guidelines that promote environmentally friendly design and construction.
Goleta Old Town Community Design Workshop: Redesigning Goleta Old Town for a Sustainable Future – October 6-8, 1995
The Goleta Old Town Community Design Workshop focused on the revitalization of Goleta Old Town, with a primary emphasis on sustainable community design principles. Green Building is necessary to the formation of a sustainable Goleta Old Town. As a part of the Community Design Workshop, the Architecture and Design Focus Group discussed various methods of environmentally sustainable design and construction applicable to Goldeta Old Town. In addition, the Landscape and Open Space Focus Group discussed sustainable landscape practices for Goleta Old Town.
Designing for Sustainable Communities – April 7-10, 1994
The Designing for Sustainable Communities symposium focused on sustainability as it applies to the design and development of the local built environment. The symposium emphasized the comprehensive notion of sustainable communities (see Sustainable Communities for more information), and included Green Building as an integral piece of discussion. Building Ecology workshops covered environmentally appropriate building materials, environmental design techniques, building energy consumption, indoor toxins, and recapturing resources in older buildings. In addition, environmentally mindful landscape ecology plays an important role in Green Building. The symposium offered one workshop on balanced landscape design and another on permaculture, which integrates biology, ecology, and agriculture. The symposium also addressed the Economics of Sustainable Projects with a workshop on the feasibility and development of green products and green architecure.
